Rant: OMG, you're laik sooo conventional!
Ever had someone accuse you of having a conventional taste in music? Here's what boggles my mind: WHY DOES IT FUCKING MATTER if the music I happen to like is mainstream or not? If the people that hark on about this actually stopped to use their brain they might realize:
Not everyone is into music enough to search every nook and cranny of the music underworld in order to discover every possible nugget of sheer unique brilliance.
Not everyone is trying so hard to be cool and, ahem..."edgy" (and yes this criticism was levied against my conventional taste in music by the very same people who accuse me of trying to be edgy, oh the irony) by listening to all these underground bands no one's heard of and most of which sound like utter shit (which is likely a good reason they haven't become more popular).
Just because something is mainstream, doesn't mean it's of bad quality or has no value. While many mainstream things are mass produced and appeal to the lowest common denominator, many are also mainstream because they're of better quality and catch on easily.
So, basically, I'm trying to be edgy and unique by...get this...listening to really mainstream conventional music...makes sense!
