Rant: Pretentious Agnostics
More often than I'd care to see, people love to critisize atheists, they're just as religious or fundamentalist as the most devoutly religious, or something along those lines. You see, according to their boundless wisdom that the rest of us dumbasses are just too stupid to see, we should take their position and be agnostic because we can't know one way or the other. Problem with that is you can't just be agnostic, as that is merely an epistemological postion rather than one of belief, so you're either an agnostic theist or an agnostic atheist, you can't be neither (well, unless you're a gnostic theist or atheist instead). They're most likely weak agnostic atheists (emphasis on weak) and they're just too busy being stuck up pretentious snobs to realize it. They love sitting atop their lofty pedestal of superior intellect and enlightenment and looking down upon the rest of us poor inferior slobs.
Most often, stupidity does not and cannot recognize itself, but rather projects itself onto others. Sure some will think I'm guilty of this myself and I know I have been at least in the past. Are any of us really immune? This is why it's so important to openly discuss and critique ideas and be open to changing our views.
