Religion
(Work in progress)

This page will mostly deal with Christianity as it is the most relevant one in my country.

It is the opinion of many that we should just let people believe what they want and that religion doesn't do any harm.  First I want to state that obviously you can't take religion away from anyone.  You can only attempt to give people the tools to make the decision themselves to let go of it.  We are really just trying to educate and enlighten people and bring them up to a higher intellectual, philosophical, spiritual and emotional level.  We are trying to help people grow up and socially and mentally evolve.  I would like to see humanity eventually give up religion as it has become obsolete as a way to explain anything and it is damaging in a number of ways.

Religion is one of the great evils in the world for only with it can you have such a thing as thought crime, can decent people do evil things, and tyranny persist without a tyrant even needing to be present.

Religion imposes misplaced and unecessary guilt for natural, biological human traits (lust, gluttony, and homosexuality for example) and imaginary crimes (origional sin).  Simply existing makes you a wretched sinful being.  You are forced into a system you never asked to be in and by default you carry a burden of guilt for the fabricated, allegorical transgressions of two people fabled to exist thousands of years before you.  You must be thankful for a fabled sacrifice (which makes no real moral or logical sense) for something that a truly benevolent and competent god could have just simply forgiven without requiring blood to be shed.  You must spend your life stroking the ego of this celestial tyrant or suffer unimaginable torture for an eternity, because power, authority and praise is the most important thing to this god-not love, not allowing humans to grow up and become strong, loving and wise.  A good, loving parent worth anything will love their child/children whether or not their children love them back.  God is so wrapped up in his ego that if his children don't choose to believe he exists without good reason (since he does nothing to show he actually exists and all we have is a 2000 year old book written by people from the bronze age) or love him back, he chooses (supposedly, according to modern belief based on the additions of the church)  to send them to a tortuous fiery prison forever and ever.

Keep in mind I'm not taking up issue with god himself so much as I am taking up issue with the idea of him that people have.  This is a war of ideas, beliefs, convictions, and the lower aspects of the human psyche-such as irrationality, bias, gullibility, etc.

A god doesn't make sense scientifically; it doesn't make sense philosophically; and dare I say it doesn't even make sense spiritually.

Misc Points to consider:

A non magical universe needs to be logical, while a magical universe would not need to be logical and therefore not operate on mathematical rules or physical laws.  Why would a god such as the one in the bible create a universe that worked in this way, that could only be understood scientifically with no evidence of anything supernatural?

Religions such as the abrahamic ones revolve largely around domination, which is as antispiritual as you can get.

A perfect being needs and wants nothing.

A spiritually perfect being would be without ego, pride, anger and judgement which the abrahamic god is all about.

How can origional sin exist if adam and eve didnt know good and evil?  They would have been innocent and not know better.  But they were put in a situation (which was supposedly forseen by god) in which they would do the wrong thing.  Looks like a set up to me!  You have an all powerful omniscient god that creates weak childlike beings, puts them in a situation that would have a bad result and blame the creations.  God must be really incompetent, really evil, or both.

Other topics I will cover here:

Basis for morality

Through our experience, we can identify and empathize with that of other's.

Reasons I believe religion needs to be phased out:

Teaches us not to think or question
Teaches us not to learn
Teaches us not to search
Fosters an us versus them mentality
Teaches us to take things based solely on faith (and authority).
Forbids disagreement or critical examination
Prevents us from being able to make informed decisions
Prevents us from being able to understand our place in the universe and the world
Clouds our thinking and judgement
Prevents us being able to appreciate an accurate perception of nature
Instills unnecessary, misplaced guilt.
Divides people.
Replaces real morality with a false set of moral dictates decided by bronze age barbarians
Provides justification for and encourages hate and violence.
Makes a fabled character more important than the real people who actually matter.
